A Quick Hello & a Challenge!

Foggy_ferry_ride We just returned from a trip inland to my parents year-round home in central Maine.  They just recently moved into their new home so it was the first time I had seen it.  It is an adorable little place, nestled deep in the woods of a rural area.  They have a small brook gurgling right by their front door with it's banks dotted with colorful foxgloves that are now in full bloom.  There are even apple tress stretching across from one grassy side of the brook to the other, as if reaching out to touch the sides of the house.  Truly a magical place to be.  We had quite an interesting mixture of weather, with warm sunny mornings that allowed the kids to do some outdoor exploring and rainy afternoons that allowed time for enjoying cozy nooks & reading books.  Very relaxing & enjoyable.  We just arrived back on the island to enjoy the remainder of our vacation here on the ocean.  We were greeted by a gloriously beautiful sunny afternoon with just a touch of fog on the horizon that is promising a walk down to the beach with the kids.  (This is a picture that David took during our pleasant ferry ride over, with Portland Headlight just barely visible in the distance.)

David and I enjoyed a nice little jaunt to Scarborough on Sunday to attend a little gathering that Julie Masse organized.  She was kind enough to seek out & assemble many of Papertrey's dedicated Maine customers and plan a picnic.  The weather didn't fully cooperate, so we weren't beach side as originally planned, but the location was still fairly coastal with the company being so enjoyable it made up for the weather!  I had the opportunity to meet several people face to face with whom I have interacted with online.  Everyone was so kind and had so many heartwarming things to say; it was like being enveloped in one big hug the entire time we were there.  (Speaking of hugs from that day, I need to give a shout out to the Carriage Trail Stampers & to all the other amazing women I had the pleasure of meeting!)  I wanted to publicly thank Julie for taking the time out of her busy schedule and preparing such a wonderful afternoon!  David and I both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!!!

"It's in the Bag" Challenge
Did you see what the Senior Design Team has been up to since I've been away?  Before I left, I challenged them to do something creative with our signature coffee bags.  They are such a great product, and if you haven't tried them out before, I suggest sampling them some time soon.  The bags are wax-lined, which makes them perfect for holding baked good with no worries of leak throughs ruining your decor on the outside.  I love to use them whenever I am sharing anything homemade because it just makes everything look so professional and polished.  The bags come in both white & kraft with a variety of sizes available, and some even feature windows.

Lisa Johnson shows you how well the bags can hold up to moist soil and can be a bit more durable than a traditional gift bag with her beautiful project!

Lauren Meader discovered that the bags were the PERFECT way to share Amish Friendship Bread practically & stylishly!

Heather Nichols created a beautiful patriotic version with a very clever glitter & stars shaker component that is incorporated into the window of the bag!

Debbie Olson decided to utilize the windowed variety of the bags to allow the recipient to have a peek at one of her favorite cookie concoctions!

Amy Rysavy created a special gift of spa products, complimented by a special "bag band" for her calming interpretation of a coffee bag..

Each and every one of of them really stepped up to the plate with this challenge and I hope you will take the time to see what they have done!  And I know you will enjoy many of the recipes they have shared as well!!!  I hope you've become inspired and create a small token of gratitude and appreciation *just because* for someone special in your life!

vacation photos: part 1

David has been playing the role of photographer as usual.  I always like to share a few of my favorites along the way...enjoy!

Stopping by to say hi & June Blog Hop

I am happy to report that we arrived safely in Maine late Tuesday night!  The drive went really well and the kids were all on their best behavior!  I think David and I *finally* have a routine & system worked out to get us through the 22+ hour drive with our sanity intact!  This morning we woke to a beautifully perfect summer Maine morning with the sun sparkling on Casco Bay!  Just stunning!  We were able to take the kids to the beach today, with it being Ethan's first experience with sand and he loved it!

101407_transparent_cake_card Did you stop over to the Blog Hop tonight to see what everyone has been up to?  This month's challenge was to play with acetate (a.k.a. transparencies) and everyone came up with such AMAZING ideas!  (You can see a list of everyone's links HERE!)  I didn't have a chance to complete a project before leaving on vacation, but I thought I would bring our my favorite transparency card from the past!  To this day this is still one of my favorite creations ever! It uses the fantastically versatile Piece of Cake stamp set along with the white sheer blossoms we carry from Maya Road (you can read ALL the details about this project in the original post HERE).  Think of all the other fun things you could layer on an acetate card base in place of the flowers... punched shapes from a variety of cardstocks or patterned papers, die-cut shapes from hundreds of different materials, page pebbles, and the list goes on and on!  Even if you didn't participate in the Blog Hop tonight, I hope you will try your hand at working with acetate!  It's such a unique material that can be used in SO many ways!

Enjoy the rest of your week and happy stamping!

On the road...

Ldi_beach I apologize for being so quiet lately!  I've had MANY preparations to take care of so we can go on a little trip!   For the first time since starting Papertrey Ink, my family and I are taking an extended vacation!  We are going to my home state of Maine to visit with family & friends and absorb the scenery that we miss so much!  We are driving from Tennessee to Maine with three kids, so it should prove to be an interesting trip!  I have gathered the supplies for a new knitting project and four or five good books.  I think the relaxation will be good for my creative soul.  I am looking forward to the time with my family more than anything else.  It amazes me how fast the kids are growing up!

We are leaving this morning and won't return until July 9th, just in time for the countdown!  I will be sure to stop in once in a while to say hi before then as well!  I hope you have a WONDERFUL rest of the weekend!

A Good-bye, Some Promotions & a Few Hellos

First, a good-bye...
................................................................
Taylors_headshot_2 I will never forget the day that I emailed Taylor to ask her if she would like to be a part of our team.  It was WAY back in January of 2007, before we had even had our first release.  When Taylor replied, she ecstatically accepted my invitation and it was honestly one of the best things that could have happened to our company.  Many of you are already familiar with Taylor's signature, eclectic style and her bright & bubbly personality.  Her contributions during the last sixteen (OMG!  16!!!)  releases have been of such a high caliber, I knew that she had something special that would take her many places as she developed within the industry.

Taylor is now taking that signature style and investing it whole-heartedly in her own business venture, Taylored Expressions.  A wonderful paper crafting resource for those who are always saying to themselves, "I wanna be like Taylor when I grow up!".  The web store is full of all of Taylor's favorite things that she is so passionate about.  Speaking of passion, Taylor's full of it, along with dedication & commitment.  I have no doubt in my mind, as Taylor travels down this new path, that she will see nothing but the biggest of successes!

We will surely miss Taylor and her contributions to the team, especially since she has been with us since the company's conception.  But with the sadness, comes a sense of pride & joy that one of *my girls* is dreaming big and reaching for the stars! We wish you all the best, Taylor!
....................................................................................................

A promotion...

Laurens_headhshot With Taylor's departure, we have promoted Lauren Meader to be a member of our Senior Design Team.  Lauren's incredible work ethic, energetic enthusiasm and mind-boggling creativity have contributed to this decision.  Her perspective of a new stamp set is always different from what I had in mind as I was designing it, and it is this perspective that I think helps Lauren to always aid in those *lightbulb* moments.  We are beyond excited to see what Lauren does while executing the tasks associated with her new title!

........................................................................................................

Promotions: take two!

Lynns_headshot Lynn Mercurio will now officially have the title of Newsletter Editor.  Within the next few months she will be aiding us in remodeling the Papertrey Newsletter into the type of publication I had always dreamed it would be, but just didn't have the time to execute.  Lynn's passion for helping others has been apparent in our forum since she joined the team, and we are looking forward to harnessing this amazing trait.  She has an uncanny ability to explain everything with such articulate precision, that even the most novice stamper can understand. That is exactly what we need to help bring a fresh face lift to our weekly publication!

...............................................................................................

Jennifers_headshot Jennifer Ellefson and I met briefly at a CHA show last year.  I was immediately impressed with both her demeanor and good ol' fashioned manners.  Since that fateful meeting, Jennifer has stepped up to the plate on a few occasions and gone above and beyond to help me with her knowledge of the industry.   While her contributions to the Design Team have been  a wonderful addition this year, I have now asked her to take on the role of my Personal Assistant.  She will be organizing my schedules and task lists, helping to organize & answer email, and all the other little things that take time away from me being able to do what I really love, designing stamps & using them!
.................................................................................................

...and the hellos

Michelles_headshot Michelle Wooderson (or Mish as she is sometimes called) is one of the happiest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.  Michelle and I always have short little email exchanges that only contain one or two lines.  In just a few words she always brightens my day!  This effervescent personality of hers shines through both her projects & her blog.  Her style is a fun mix of shabby-chic &  Martha, all rolled into one.  I love the real life spin she puts on everything she does, making us all feel like "Yeah, I can do that!".   Words can hardly begin to express how elated I am to have Michelle contributing to our team, and I know you will be excited to see what she comes up with for each and every release!
...................................................................................................

Dawns_headshot I am also pleased to bring you Dawn McVey.  Dawn & I met at a stamping store in Kansas that I was assigned to for World Card Making Day last year when I still worked for Paper Crafts magazine.  She was so excited to be there and was eager to seek out advice as to how to get into the publishing industry.  We exchanged phone numbers that day and have had several lengthy conversations since!  Little did I know how much amazing talent, clean & simple style, was held inside such a wonderfully positive woman.  I am confident that her contributions to the team will be welcomed warmly and her fresh perspective inspiring!

......................................................................................................
Nikis_headshot And last but not least, I present you with Niki Estes!  She could easily be voted as one of the most dedicated Papertrey fans ever!  Pair that enthusiasm with unmistakable talent and a softly sweet personality, and you have a group of characteristics fitting for a member of our team!  I will never forget the excitement in Niki's voice when I called her on Monday to formally invite her to join the team.  We are really looking forward to exhibiting Niki's work and the warmth that it exudes.

..........................................................................................

Thanks for allowing me to share all our big news with you!  The July release will be here before you know it and you will be able to see all of this amazing talent in action soon enough!

June Honorable Mentions

Another Guest Star Stamper Contest has come to a close and this month's decisions were even more difficult than before!  If you have the opportunity, I highly recommend visiting the June Guest Star Stamper Gallery in our forum.  You will not be sorry!  Well, now onto the winners!

Gssthewinners

......................................................................................

Lizzie Jones won in the "Best Baby Gift" category.  Her creativity in making this adorable baby mobile using our new Bitty Baby Blessings set was just genius!  I love the idea of being able to customize it with patterned papers that compliment a baby's nursery too!

Tracy (whoistracy) had the winning entry for "Best Use of Honey Bees".  I loved the simple three panels paired with the color scheme.  The small pierced bee trail was a wonderful touch as well!  And you gotta love anything that has a bit of sparkle!

Meredith Brown (brownie75) won in the category of "Best Use of Mailbox Greetings".  The way she highlighted a small portion of the mailbox image was unlike any other entry we had received.  I really liked the way she mixed a modern color scheme with a traditional image.  It really reinvented this stamp set for me.

Gsshonorablementions

.........................................................................................
Since it is always so difficult for me to pick a winner, I have showcased a few of my other favorites.  So much great inspiration!  Look at everything below as doens of little bits of inspiration that you can take into your own stamping today and re-invent it to suit your needs, mood or style!  Have fun!

Bestuseofhoneybees
Honey_bees_hmj_front_2

Heather (hmj) created this cute little gift that could be appropriate for so many little *just because* occasions! I thought the connection between a bee themed stamp set and Burt's Bees Lip Balm was especially clever, with the color scheme complimenting that process perfectly!

...............................................................................................
Honey_bees_regandags Regan D'Agostino (regandags) paired Bitty Baby Blessings patterned paper with this set for a bright, colorful card that just makes you happy to look at!  All the yellow & orange hues paired with a little sparkle and a perfect balance in design make this an A+ project!

...............................................................................................
Honey_bees_verna Verna Mason (verna) put together these amazing lid labels for a variety flavors of Honey Butter.  I loved the combination of the Trajan Monogram Edition & Simple Alphabet she used for the text.  I think it almost looks professionally printed!

..............................................................................................
Baby_blessingsx3 blessingsX3 made this fun little treat for a friend that just recently found out she was expecting.  She used Limitless Labels combined with Bit O' Honey candy to create a customized look.  I think any mommy-to-bee would love to receive something like this!

.............................................................................................

Honey_bees_mypaperhaven Katie Renz (mypaperhaven) created this pretty card with an out of the box color scheme for this set.  I loved the Kraft, Lemon Tart & Sweet Blush paired together.  The background she created with the heat embossed honey comb image was really fantastic too!

.........................................................................................

Bestbabygift .......................................................................................................
Baby_babies_bag Beth Wilson (babies) made an incredible gift ensemble for baby (you can check out the full presentation HERE).  The diaper bag which houses everything was one of my favorite parts.  She stamped the fabric with a variety of images and customized it to go along with her vision.  Beautiful job!

..........................................................................................
Baby_kristyscraps Kristy Vernon (kristyscraps) created these beautiful storage cubes for baby's toiletry items that are kept near the diaper changing area.  I loved the simplicity of them and can only image how cute they will be lined up in baby's room!

..........................................................................................
Baby_jmasse Julie Masse (jmasse) made this clever & cute baby wipes kit.  She says she has been making her own baby wipes inexpensively for years.  By providing an easy kit like this that will look pretty sitting out in the baby's room to a new mother, she'll save money AND benefit from the added decor!

..........................................................................................
Baby_jess_witty Jessica Witty (jess_witty) created this boutique quality name frame for a baby boy.  I loved the rope & pennant flag detail on the outside of the frame.  I can totally visualize this being presented at a baby shower along with a few other sailor themed items!

...........................................................................................
Baby_kimberly_crawford Kimberly Crawford designed an amazing growth chart that folds easily to put away as a keepsake.  One of the special features it boasts is that the monthly milestone markers are affixed to bitty clothespins, so that they can be clipped on at the appropriate measurement.  (You can see the full chart HERE)

..............................................................................................

Baby_niki_binky_bag Niki Estes (Niki) made this absolutely to-die-for adorable bitty binky bag with matching card.  I thought this would be such a cute little gift for someone who is just a casual acquaintance, like a co-worker or church member.

......................................................................................

Baby_tylersmum05_closed Molly (tylersmum05) created this AMAZING pull-toy gift card holder.  When you pull on the string, an insert pulls out with it that has the gift card attached.  I think ALL of the animals in Bitty Baby Blessings would work wonderfully with this pull-toy concept!

.............................................................................................

Bestuseofmailboxgreetings

Mailboxes_blessingsx3 blessingsX3 created a beautiful winter scene using Mailbox Greetings.  I loved the way that she added just a touch of glitter to the tops of the mailboxes and a few other places, really capturing the sparkling look of fresh fallen snow.

..............................................................................................

Mailboxes_hmj_address_book Heather (hmj) decided that Mailbox Greetings lent itself perfectly to creating an adress book.  I loved the way she appropriately created a background by using a mixture of the sentiments that are included in the set.

..........................................................................................

Mailboxes_wendybell

Wendy Weixler (wendybell) made this beautiful card that features a bit of red color pop.  I really liked the way she created the sentiment strip up the side, emphasizing one section in black.  I'll have to try that myself sometime soon.

...............................................................................................

My favorite memory of home is the time I spent with my sisters. I have three sisters and we were always really close. And now that we have our own families, we aren't able to get together very often. When we do, it seems like we are all talking at once to each other with at least 3 different conversations going on at the same time. Love those rare times when we are able to get together.

Congratulations, Niki!!!  You will receive the entire "I Want It All" Package for June!  Please email customer service with your shipping address so we can get that out to you as soon as possible!  And a BIG thank you to everyone that has played tonight!  I haven't had a chance to read through everything tonight, but tomorrow morning I know it will be one of the first things I do.  It really makes me feel like we grow closer as I learn more about you through these types of contests!  Have a WONDERFUL Father's Day!!!
